Mechanical
operating systems had its beginnings in Dayton, Ohio, before the turn of
the century.
Patents dated 1893 indicate Elmer E.
Wolf invented a viable sash operating system which was later assigned to
the "The Wolf Machine Co." Dayton, Ohio. Patents in 1906 covered early
geared design, and in 1907, and operating system using curved rack &
pinion.
In 1920 the Wolf Machine Co. was
purchased by Callahan Duo Glazed Sash Co., also of Dayton, Ohio. The
Callahan Duo Glazed Co. name was changed to T. J. Callahan Co. T. J.
Callahan , owner, also held many patents on greenhouse components and
operating systems. He also held patents on a early electrical rotating
limit switch.
Dayton Metal Products started in 1925
known then as the Dayton Greenhouse Manufacturing Co. located at 955 S.
Perry St. Dayton, Ohio and purchased the T. J. Callahan Co. in 1926. Our
company operated as Dayton Greenhouse until 1946, when we changed the name
to Dayton Metal Products Co. and discontinued the manufacturing of
greenhouses and continued to manufacture window operating systems.
In 1973 a fire destroyed the plant at
955 S. Perry St. and for a couple of years operated the business from
their homes and manufacturing at various locations around Dayton, Ohio
until purchasing a 6,000 sq. ft. building at 3521 Wrightway Rd. in Dayton,
Ohio and moving the manufacturing and offices there in 1975.
In October of 1983 the company was
purchased by K. C. MacKenzie. In July 1990 we broke ground for a new plant
at 1731 Dalton Drive, New Carlisle, Ohio, just outside of Dayton, Ohio. We
moved the manufacturing and offices to the almost 12,000 sq. ft.
plant in January of 1991.
Still today we
manufacture some of the same window systems that were made in the
beginning of the century.
Thank You for your
interest in Dayton Metal Products Co.
